Nasi dagang is a popular breakfast food originated from Terengganu and Kelantan. Basically, this traditional malay dish consists of rice served with fish curry and pickled vegetables. What makes it special is that the rice is cooked with ingredients such as onion, ginger, lemongrass and fenugreek seeds. Those ingredients are known to add fragrance to dishes. The rice is also steamed with coconut milk. This creates a creamy taste and distinctive aroma, making it edible just like that. As for the curry, they prepare it by using meaty tuna fish like cod or mackerel and cook it with spices and coconut milk, producing rich taste to the gravy. This savory combination of steamed rice and fish curry is then served with pickled cucumbers, carrots and onions.

At Nasi Dagang Pak Malau, instead of serving one type of curry, they serve extra types of it. Concerning those who are not into fish dishes, Nasi Dagang Pak Malau adds chicken curry, beef rendang, mutton kurma and some other dishes to the house menu. There is nothing to worry about for those who don't like fish meal. Other than that, they also has appetizers like cake and kuih-muih for your sweet tooth. Some selections they got there. The price range for each food and dish at this eatery is affordable.

At Nasi Dagang Pak Malau, aside from paying to sit and eat your meals, you also get to enjoy an open paddy field view by your eyes. The green landscape joined by a royal backdrop of Langkawi’s highest mountain, Gunung Raya is added into the bargain. There are several gazebos outside of the restaurant that allow guests to enjoy their meals in an open air surrounded by the paddy field view. Grab a chance to chow down at one of those spots as they are always a snatch!

On top of that, this eatery applies traditional malay concept to their whole settings. They use old interior decorations to bring out a nostalgic mood such as pottery, jars and old furnitures. There is also an antique car displayed at the center of the area that makes the classic concept more prominent. If you are lucky, you can meet Pak Malau when you pay for the food later. Pak Malau is known for having a friendly personality and love reciprocating poems. Try your luck there and let’s see if your artistic merit is on par with Pak Malau’s.
